Keeping Your Business Immaculate

When we installed a suggestion box in the entryway of our business, I was amazed to see how many customers responded. After we started going through the suggestions, we realized that there was one request that we kept seeing--the need for a cleaner store. We decided to make a few changes to keep our place cleaner, including hiring a professional cleaning service. The results were incredible. Customers started to comment on how clean our place was, instead of the need for dramatic changes. We also noticed a boost in our sales because customers felt more comfortable in our store. Kiss Sneezing And Wheezing Goodbye With These Tips To Keep Winter Allergens Out Of Your Home

by Lee Porter

Colds and the flu are enough to deal with in the winter – you don't want to be battling allergy symptoms, too! Follow these tips to keep winter allergens like dust, mold spores, and pet dander out of your home.

Have your carpet cleaned.

Vacuuming only removes so much. When winter is approaching and you're about to spend more time inside, splurge on a professional carpet cleaning. This will remove the allergens from deep within your carpet, keeping your symptoms at bay for much longer. Be sure to dust your furniture thoroughly before the carpet cleaning team arrives, so you don't risk scattering dust onto your newly cleaned carpet afterwards. Also, keep up with regular vacuuming (twice a week if you can manage it) after the cleaning to ensure newly introduced allergens are sucked up before they get the chance to get ground in more deeply.

Keep your curtains cleaned.

Curtains are notorious for grabbing onto allergens as they blow in through the window during the summer. Then, they hold onto them all winter long, letting them free whenever a breeze from your heater floats by. Remove your curtains, and wash them thoroughly in warm water. If you have blinds or shades rather than curtains, give them a good wipe-down and an all-purpose cleaner.

Clean under your bed.

When was the last time you actually pulled out your bed and vacuumed behind and underneath it? If it has been a while, you're probably inhaling a lot of allergens as you sleep. Pull your bed out, and clean the floor underneath it thoroughly. Also dust the edges of the bedframe as these can accumulate debris, too.

Switch to a HEPA furnace filter.

HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate arresting. This type of furnace filter traps many allergen particles that may be small enough to fit through a standard cotton or fiberglass furnace filter. A HEPA furnace filter will cost a few dollars more than a standard one, but you'll be doing a lot less sneezing once it's in place. If you have pets, be sure to purchase a HEPA filter than specifically states it will capture pet dander – not all of them do.

If you follow the tips above, you should be able to reduce the levels of winter allergens in your home significantly. If you find yourself feeling sneezy and wheezy at any time during the winter, you may need to repeat some or all of these steps to get the allergen levels back under control.
