Keeping Your Business Immaculate

When we installed a suggestion box in the entryway of our business, I was amazed to see how many customers responded. After we started going through the suggestions, we realized that there was one request that we kept seeing--the need for a cleaner store. We decided to make a few changes to keep our place cleaner, including hiring a professional cleaning service. The results were incredible. Customers started to comment on how clean our place was, instead of the need for dramatic changes. We also noticed a boost in our sales because customers felt more comfortable in our store. Four Simple Ways To Reduce Your Exposure To Fall Allergens

by Lee Porter

Many people look forward to spending hours curled up at home during the fall and winter months, but for someone with fall allergies, these months spent indoors can be brutal. Allergies to mold spores, dust mites and pet dander often act up in the fall when people spend more time inside. However, there are some things you can do to limit your exposure to these allergens and make your time inside more enjoyable.

Have your carpets professionally cleaned.

Carpets can hold onto allergens for years, and vacuuming won't remove the particles that have become more deeply embedded in the fibers. Having your carpet cleaned by a professional who is experienced in treating the homes of allergy sufferers will reduce the overall level of allergens in your home significantly. Make sure your carpet cleaner uses hypoallergenic shampoos. You will also want them to use a fast-drying method, since mold can develop (making allergies even worse) if your carpet takes longer to dry.

Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter.

After you have your carpet cleaned, keep it that way by using a vacuum that is fitted with a HEPA filter. This type of filter traps allergen particles that are small enough to slip through a standard vacuum filter. Vacuuming at least twice per week is wise, if you have the time.

Put a plastic cover on your bed.

Dust mites and mold spores can cling to your mattress and are difficult to remove. Even if you launder your bedding regularly, these allergens are small enough to work their way through your bedding, so you probably inhale a few of them each time you sleep. A good way to avoid this is to encase your mattress in a plastic cover. Allergens can't make it through the plastic! Purchase new pillows every few months too – they hold onto allergens as well, but covering them in plastic (while effective) is not very comfortable.

Shower before going to bed.

As you go about your day, allergens are likely to attach themselves to your hair and skin. When you jump into bed without showering, you transfer these allergens to your bedding – and then you breathe them in. Get into the habit of showering before bed each night, especially if you spend any time outside where you may be exposed to pollen and mold spores.

Avoiding allergens in the fall and winter can be challenging, but with the tips above, you'll be well on your way. Remember that in addition to these tips, dusting and generally cleaning your home on a regular basis is essential to keep allergen levels low. Use cleaners like People's Maintenance Company for the best results.
